If you have been flying all over blogland looking for a place to land, then this is it! "It's for the Birds" blog hop starts today! First I would like to say a very special THANK YOU to Mdm Samm of Sew We Quilt for organizing all the wonderful blog hops that we get to enjoy. Also a special THANK YOU to Mary of I Piece 2-Mary for being our cheerleader. These two ladies are amazing!!
Here is todays' list of very talented participants and today is my day too!
Tuesday May 7th!
So let's get started! The first project I made is a wall hanging I call "Home Tweet Home".
I love the solid colors in this quilt. They are so vibrant!Star quilts are one of my favorite quilt patterns and I designed this one like a Medallion Quilt. I really like the "Alegria" blue bird fabrics . These birds were designed by Gennine D. Zlatkis, If you haven't seen her fabrics or art work , please check it out. Her work is amazing!
The fabrics are "Alegria from Project Anthologies, Flea Market Fancy from Jen at Loom and Shuttle on Etsy and Pure Elements from Julie at The Intrepid Thread . It measures 29" square. I free hand embroidered "Home Tweet Home" and stitched in the ditch around the star. And I did free motion stippling in the FMF Posy turqoise fabric. This little wall hanging is flying off to find a home at my daughters' new apartment.
My second project is a matching pillow.
My first Wonky Log Cabin Block! I really enjoyed making this Wonky Log Cabin block. I used a tutorial from Quilt Dad .
The back is an allover bird print from the "Alegria" fabric line for Cloud 9 fabrics and the fabrics on the front are a mixture of Alegria and fabric from my stash. This pillow measures 17" square. I machine quilted it in a grid pattern on the back and outlined each log on the front.
Now are you ready for some Tsuru?
I started out English Paper Piecing some of the tsuru cranes from the main print fabrics. I had intended to make a table runner (also for my daughters apartment), but somehow I decided SATURDAY the 4th of May that I wanted to make a quilt. So here is the flimsy.
The cranes ,and my thoughts, kept going in circles until they finally got their act together and headed home , in a "V".
Now if you haven't seen Tsuru by Rashida Coleman-Hale, let me tell you it is gorgeous fabric to work with. I love the colors and it really has a great super soft feel to it. This quilt top measure 46x52". I plan on using the Motif Madness in ivory for the backing and Making Tracks in indigo for the binding. Not sure yet if I will add borders. I purchased my Tsuru from Pink Castle Fabrics. This is probaly the most modern looking quilt I have made. At least to me it looks more modern than most of my projects.
Now last but certainly not least ,I would like to introduce you to a very special little helper that I have. Please meet....
Daisy, The Handy Hen!
Boy, does this fat little hen like to strut her stuff. She carries quite the load. Daisy keeps my scissors, rotary cutters, marking pens, thread, needles, safety pins, quilting pins, bobbins and even a needle threader all within easy reach.
She doesn't even get her tail feathers ruffled when I carry her outside for some hand sewing. No sir. I designed Daisy to be a good hen. No backtalk outta her! She just sits quietly wherever I put her and keeps all my tools nice and handy!
I sure hope you have enjoyed my little birdie projects today! If you are still hanging in there then you are one lucky duck because I have a giveaway! Actually I have
two three giveaways.
First, I have a Honeycomb precut by moda of happy-go-lucky and a 25 pc pkg of 2 1/2" Hexagon papers from Paper Pieces.
