Frankly my dear...The Stamp on It blog hop continues and giveaways!

When Mdm Samm of Sew We Quilt announced a blog hop designed around a "Postage Stamp" made of material and representative of your state, I knew exactly what I wanted to create.  Georgia, my home state, is most famous for two things: "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell and "Peaches". Afterall we are the Peach State. But frankly my dears, I misread the instructions

and made an entire Quilt! My new lap quilt measures 42x54. Just a great size to snuggle under, but kinda big for a stamp! The postal rate to mail a letter in 1936 was 3 cents. That was the year in which "Gone with the Wind" was published. The movie first came out in 1939. In 1964, when I was 5 years old, it was the 25th anniversary of the movie and it came to Albany, Georgia. That was the first motion picture that we actually got to go to the theatre to see. I can still remember all the adults talking in hushed whispers during the intermission because the movie was so emotional and moving! I sat in my fathers lap and hid my face , alot!

I still feel the awe of the scene of Atlanta burning whenever I watch the movie now.

The Margaret Mitchell House is still in Atlanta and is open to visitors.

And yes there really is a scene when that low life varmit Rhett tells Scarlett that" frankly, my dear I don't give a %$#@ as he walks out on her!

And frankly, I just want a bonnet like this to wear in the hayfield!

Now, after I saw all the adorable, cute and much smaller stamps all the other great Stamp hoppers were making, I decided I better make a smaller one too. One that represents my life today:

The tractor is orange because it is representative of the tractor that I usually drive.

A 1958 Allis Chalmers D17. It is also the first tractor my hubby ever bought. He purchased this tractor around 1974.
She still runs like a top! I love driving this one. It is easier for me to handle than the larger tractors
but is still powerful enough to get me out of any situation I manage to get into.

My stamps' worth is 12cents because March of  2012 was when I first set up Sew and Sow Farm blog. Since I am pretty shy, I didn't publish my first post until Feb 25 2013.
I have not quilted my stamp yet. I think I want to embroider a steering wheel, lights and "D17 Allis Chalmers" on the cream section of the hood. The tractor pattern is from Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet. This tractor pattern has 54 pieces!  But I was surprised at how simple it actually was to sew up and if you want to make a tractor, I would definitely recommend this pattern.
I think when I do get my stamp finished I will make it into a wall hanging to go in my sewing area. I plan on using the light gray check for the binding.

Now, I think I'll go snuggle under Rhett and Scarlett and watch "Gone with the Wind" for the 22nd time. But before I do that, I would like to say thank you to Thearica of Pigtales and Quilts for being our cheerleader for this hop. It takes ALOT of hard work and dedication to keep all of us hoppers straight and Thearica has done a fantastic job as always. Also I would love if you would visit the other Stamp hoppers today and the rest of the hop and show them how wonderful the quilting and blogging community can be. Here is the list:

  22. Perfect choice for you on both scores, Jan. I don't know that there was a size limitation for the stamp so why NOT a lap quilt? The tractor is darling and you just whipped it right up!

I remember reading "Gone with the Wind" for the first time in my early teens, with the book propped up on the dresser while I rearranged my room for the umpteenth time, during spring break one year. I have friends from both the North and South who are great fans of the movie too. I suppose if I were lucky to win our giveaway, that I would be tempted to give 1 or 2 to them. But I really like the charm pack, LOL. Be selfish or be a friend?? HMMM
