W.I.P. Wednesday and APQS Longarm Giveaway!

   Happy Humpday yall! I hope everyone has had a good week so far. The weather has tuned cold and windy here again, but it sure was nice to have a few days of warmer temperatures and sunshine! A couple of weeks ago I attended a neighbors baby shower for her daughter in law. And I made a Diaper "Motorcycle" since it was primarily a diaper shower.

   This was so fun to make and they loved it.  But while I was there one of the girls started talking about a friend whose little girl was fixin to start sleeping in her "Big Girl's " bed for the first time. And that led to how they were planning on decorating her room for the occasion. Which of course led to "Hey, Jan you make quilts don't cha?" Uhhhh, yeah. Well seems the little girl is crazy about The Lorax! And it just so happens I have some Lorax fabric. So here is my "Work In Progress" this Wednesday:

Yep. This baby has to be full/double sized before it's over with. I love sewing and making quilts. However, I get really nervous when I am doing it on commission. Does anyone else feel like that? I mean I have made several of these quilts in a smaller, toddler like size on commission before. Maybe it's the size that is making me anxious? Or maybe it's because it's for a friend of a friend of the daughter in law of my neighbor that doesn't even live remotely close to me scenario that is making me bite my nails and not sleep. I dunno. Anybody else out there biting their nails over something?

Goodness me!
 Yall are I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E!!!.I can't keep up with yall you're hopping around so fast.
Reminds me of the other day when one of the barn cats was sleeping up on a board in the sun next to the hay ring, which just so happened to have a calf eating out of it and yep you guessed it, the little calf grabbed the cats tail along with a mouthful of hay. I don't know what was worse, the cats screaming and wailing and clawing like the devil himself had ahold of him or the poor calf that got scared so bad by all the ruckus that he run plumb through and into the middle of the hay ring.  And there I was caught in the midst of it all with a bucket of feed for the mama cow not knowing which way to run or who to see about first. It took me an hour to find the cat. Geesh!  Both the cat and calf were just fine. No one got hurt, but I tell ya these critters around here are making my hair get grayer by the minute! I still crack up every time I remember seeing that cat swinging by his tail from that calf's mouth. Thank goodness the calf had a mouthful of hay along with the cats tail. Anyway, the whole reason I was tellin yall about this is that I have been scrambling around my blog and email the last two days trying to make sure everyone is having fun and not having any problems entering the giveaways. This has been a blast so far and I have met alot of new to me friends.  Last year I participated in the Lets' Get Acquainted Blog hop sponsored by Beth at Plum and June. I knew I wanted to make something a little more modern for the hop. Something that might would appeal to the younger generation. So I jumped online and visited The Intrepid Thread. I found some fabric called Kona Modern Quilts that they had in a colorway called Berry. I loved it, so I ordered some and Julie shipped it out the very next day. This is what I made:

 A Giant Churn Dash! This quilt was so much fun. I made it using a Quilt as You Go method. It lives in my daughters apartment now at college!

 For the binding, I used strips of the same color pieces from the front for a scrappy look. And pieced the back with a different print of the same line.

I really enjoyed this quilt. The fabrics were a dream to work with. The colors are so bright and rich. I think it was the perfect fabric for this quilt. I was so glad that The Intrepid Thread had just what I was looking for. And they always have something new and exciting going on. YEEHAW YALL! It's my 1 year Blog Anniversary and I am ready to Celebrate! It has been an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G year! I have met so many new and exciting friends and learned so very much this year. I just never really thought I could do this. You see, I read blogs for about a year. That would be 2011. Then in March of 2012 I thought I would set up a blog and see how it went. Well, I read blogs for another 11 months and finally got up the nerve to publish my first post on February 18, 2013! I am just a wee bit shy! And I think I just never looked back!
 That first post was about a Scrappy Many Trips Around the World Quilt that I was making on my Singer Featherweight.

 I realized that I never did show the finished quilt.  Here it is!

I used some really old scraps. Many were from my Aunts and grandmothers. Some prints are old and some not so old.

It is quilted in a Starflower allover design using Aurifil Color# 2021 (Natural White) and I backed and bound it in a soft green floral. It is one of my favorite quilts.
 So this year has been super busy and this is my 112th post. And yall know how much I like to have giveaways! Valentines,Eagles and Giveaways!

Hey there Cookies!  Happy Valentine's Day! This is a picture of a little Valentine I made last year using Pam Kitty Love fabrics and some old lace. I just love vintage Valentines, so when I first saw this line of fabric I had to have a few of the panels!

I  really do think yall are Swell! So I made a special one to remind me of all my bloggie friends! It is hanging on the wall by my machine. And this is the one I made for that handsome farmer hubby dude!

 This really does suit us to a "T"!
 Yall these were so fun to make! I think homemade Valentines are just so fun and remind me of my early school days! (Ok I just made myself sound ancient!) Anyway,  I just love Pam Kitty Love fabrics. The Fat Quarter Shop has a little Pam Kitty Love remaining in their shop and at 50% off! Woohoo! And they have her newest line "Pam Kitty Picnic in stock! OH MY GOODNESS! This is THE most adorable fabric I have ever seen and what I told my hubby I wanted for Valentines Day several weeks ago! So Pam Kitty Picnic is my scrumptious Valentine!

Cute doesn't even begin to cover it!

  The panel is adorable! I have no idea what all I will be making with these! I made a Civil War Sampler with Pam Kitty Love! So, I will be just sitting here staring and petting them for a while, well, probaly all day!They sure have sweetened up my day!
And I wanted to tell yall about some Eagles that are about to hatch their eggs! And YOU CAN WATCH!
Yay! Berry College in Rome Georgia (hour or so south of me) has set up a Web Cam to watch their nest! The Eagle pair first started building the nest in March of 2012. They returned in October of 2012 and started repairing and refurbishing their huge dwelling!  They hatched their babies in January of 2013 and now they have returned and these babies are due to start hatching any day! You can see the daddy bring food to the mama and they take turns sitting on the eggs! Here is the link for the live video stream:
Berry College Eagle Cam. They have stayed right there during all the snow falling on them, keeping those eggs warm. There is a nightlight so you can even see them at night! I have been keeping it running on my computer and just check it every time I happen to walk past. I hope I get to see the babies hatch and take flight! I hope yall do too!

This sure was fun to make with diapers, receiving blankets,bottle brushes, booties,bottles, pacifiers.

Then just wrap a piece of cardboard in pretty paper and bundle it all up in tulle and a bow.

Come on in.....Don't Let the Door Stop You!

Yall I really have to say a special Thank You to Mdm Samm of Sew We Quilt and Carla of Creatin' in the Sticks , our fabulous cheerleader, for making me get off my duff and make a presentable door stop instead of the old dusty Goose I had been using! He's a fine fella but I needed something not quite so old!

So this is what I came up with. I have had this farm scene fabric for a while and it fits this Quaker Oats cannister just right. Yall know how I like to repurpose items whenever possible. It is filled with an old sock full of beans. (Hey its all I had and I've been sick :) And it works. )  Anyway I decided to take my door prop outside to take some photos. 

It really is very pretty fabric and just suits our farm!

But yall, I had the weirdest feeling like I was being watched the entire time I was outside!

I mean it really gave me goosebumps!

Even when I went out to the hay barn, I felt like I was being followed.

But I shook the feeling off and went about my merry way taking more pictures of my cannister!

I went inside to check my photos as I always do. Thats when I saw it! A varmit was photo bombing all my pictures!

Well that just wouldn't do. So I headed into town to get a trap!

When I got back home I set the trap up and put a big ripe Banana in it to see if I could catch the critter!!

I got him!

 Now what to do?

Yall the poor little critter was shaking in his socks! He was scared to death and started talkin so fast I couldn't make heads or tails (if he had one) of what he was talkin about!

Best I could understand was that he had run away from the Circus because all the other animals made fun of him because his legs are too long! He begged and begged me to give him a home on the farm. So being the softie that I am, I told him to let's see what chores you can do and I'll talk to Mr Farmer about keeping him around. So we went to work!

First thing he wanted to do was drive MY tractor! I should have known better! He gave it a flat!

Then he fell over into the Bantie pen!

Helped Mr Farmer roll up some loose hay!

Straightened (ahem) up the hay rope!

Then spilled the chicken feed! I'd had enough!

So I gave him a good talking to and he promised to do better!

Well, it wasn't long before he had Lucy and Lily eating out of his hand!

Lucy liked him so much that she let him ride on her back!

But yall,he scared the other chickens so much that they plum stopped laying! I knew I had to do something, so I took him to the house to see if he could help me out up there! We sat down and had lunch and I asked him "What's your name anyway?"

He said "It's Sir Samuel Stopsalot. Pleased to meet you ma'am"

Aha, I had the perfect job for him!

Yep, he could stop the draft from coming under the kitchen door! Those long legs were just perfect!

When I told him he could stay, well he was happy, happy, happy!

 So happy in fact he showed me how he could swing around the house, even from the doorknobs!

 My feet are warm n' toasty now without a draft coming from under the door!

Yall, I am so glad I was able to offer Sir Samuel Stopsalot a home here on the farm!

 He's a pretty good guy once I got him to stop monkeying around! 

I hope yall enjoyed getting to meet him too :)!
